THE CUMBRIAN MARTYRS PARISH!

THE OFFICIAL MERGING OF THE TWO PARISHES OF ST BEDE’S AND ST
EDMUND’S INTO THE NEW PARISH OF “THE CUMBRIAN MARTYRS”

Dear Parishioners,

The new Parish of “THE CUMBRIAN MARTYRS” will be canonically established on the 16th July 2017. The Bishop’s letter of Decree authorising this is scanned and displayed under this letter.  I think this is a great and challenging time to come together. Jesus constantly called on his disciples “not be afraid”! By merging we hopefully will be witnessing to the unity and love Christ has for His Church. We are living in a very disturbed time and we, Christians, are on the verge of persecution because we uphold traditional moral values, such as the sanctity of life and traditional marriage. We reject this new wave of gender ideology and all the lies of the Devil. It is so necessary in this moment to be witnesses to the Truth of Christ. In front of Pilate Jesus said: “Yes, I am a king. I was born for this, I came into the world for this: to bear witness to the truth; and all who are on the side of truth listen to my voice.” The world, and the prince of this world, Satan, like Pilate says: “Truth, what is that?” Our predecessors, the Cumbrian Martyrs, stood up for “the Truth”, and were willing to give their lives up for the truth, namely Jesus Christ. Our secular society has and is rejecting God, and all who believe in Him!

The two Churches of St Bede’s and St Edmund’s will still have their own identity and the Mass times for midweek and weekend have not changed, and will not change for the immediate future. It is hoped that we will be able to work more closely with each other, especially having one Parish Council and one Financial Committee.

The old Parish Pastoral Councils of the old parishes have been disbanded. There i  a procedure now under way to form and implement a new parish pastoral council for the new parish of “The Cumbrian Martyrs”. For two weeks there are nomination forms at the back of both Churches for the election of members for the new parish council. Over the weekend of the 15th/16th July, the weekend that the Decree of the merger comes into effect, the New Parish Council will be elected. The first meeting of the new Parish Council will be at St Bede’s Rectory on Thursday 20th July 2017 at 7.30pm. At this first meeting, a chair person and secretary will be elected and subcommittees will be formulated on the different aspects of Parochial life.

In the Autumn the names and photographs of the elected council will be put on the website.

Peace.
